Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

SpeakVietnam ("we", "us") runs the Vietnamese-learning service at speakvietnam.com and in our Android and iOS apps. We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: hello@speakvietnam.com · Trung Kinh St, Yen Hoa, Hanoi, Vietnam.

The Service is free: we do not process payments, sell subscriptions, show ads or sell personal data.

2. Data we collect

• Account data — your name, email address and profile photo from Google or Apple when you sign in, plus an internal user id.
• Learner settings — your support language and learner gender (used only to choose the correct Vietnamese pronouns in lessons), and the date and version of the terms you agreed to.
• Learning activity — lesson progress, answers to exercises, and speaking attempts: the text transcript of what you said and your scores.
• Voice recordings — short clips you record in speaking exercises. Each clip is sent to our AI speech-processing provider to be transcribed and scored and is not stored by us. We do not use your voice to identify you.
• Text sent for grading — the transcript of what you said, with the expected answer, is sent to our AI language-model provider to grade your speaking answers and give pronunciation tips.
• Support messages — what you write in the in-app support form, with your email and user id. It is stored with your account and delivered to our team through a secure messaging service.
• Analytics events — in-app actions (for example "lesson started") with event details, your platform (web/Android/iOS), learner gender and support language, keyed by a pseudonymous user id. We send these from our servers to our product-analytics providers. We do not send your IP address, name, email or device identifiers to analytics providers.
• Technical data — your IP address and request details are used briefly for rate limiting and security, and server logs (which may contain your user id) are kept for about 30 days to fix errors and investigate abuse.

3. Why we use it and our legal basis

We process your data on the basis of your consent, given when you create your account, to:

• sign you in and keep your account and settings;
• deliver lessons with the right pronouns and save your progress;
• transcribe and score your pronunciation and grade your answers;
• answer your support requests;
• understand, in aggregate, how the Service is used so we can improve it;
• keep the Service secure and prevent abuse.

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or make decisions about you that have legal effects.

4. Who processes your data

We share data only with providers that run parts of the Service for us, under their data-processing terms:

• Cloud hosting and database — runs the Service and stores your account data (Singapore).
• Sign-in providers — Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple, when you choose them.
• AI speech and language processing — transcribes and scores your recordings and grades your answers (USA). Data sent to this provider is not used to train its models and may be kept by it for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring only.
• Content delivery — stores and delivers lesson images and audio (global network; no personal data).
• Product analytics — aggregate usage statistics, keyed by a pseudonymous id (USA).
• Security and rate limiting — temporary counters keyed by user id or IP address.
• Team messaging — delivers support messages to our team.

Each provider acts on our instructions under a data-processing agreement. You can ask us for the names of the providers that process your data by emailing us (see section 12).

5. Transfers outside Vietnam

Several of the providers above process data outside Vietnam (Singapore, the USA and other countries where they operate). By agreeing to this policy you consent to these transfers. We transfer only what each provider needs, over encrypted connections, and rely on their contractual data-protection commitments.

6. How long we keep it

• Account data, settings, progress, transcripts, scores and support messages — until you delete your account.
• Voice recordings — not stored by us (see section 2).
• Server logs — about 30 days.
• Analytics data — deleted from our analytics providers within 30 days of account deletion.

You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account on the web or in the app — see account deletion. Data in our database is deleted immediately. To remove the copy of a support message delivered to our team's messaging service, email us.

7. Your rights

You have the right to:

• access your personal data and request a copy of it by email;
• correct inaccurate data (most settings can be changed in Settings);
• delete your account and data (in-app, or by email);
• withdraw your consent — by deleting your account or emailing us; this does not affect processing already carried out;
• object to or restrict processing, and to complain to the competent Vietnamese authority.

Email hello@speakvietnam.com from the address you signed up with. We will reply within 30 days (and sooner where the law requires).

8. Cookies and local storage

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and browser storage to remember your theme and language. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and no analytics script runs in your browser.

9. Security

We use encryption in transit (TLS), server-side access checks on every protected request, rate limiting and restricted administrative access. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data we will notify you and the authorities as required by law.

10. Minimum age

The Service is only for people aged 16 or older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16; if we learn that we have, we delete the account. Contact us if you believe this has happened.

11. Changes to this policy

We will tell you about material changes in the app or by email before they take effect and, where required, ask for your consent again. The date at the top shows the current version.
