SpeakVietnam ("we", "us", "our") operates the website and mobile web application at speakvietnam.com. We provide a platform for learning the Vietnamese language through real-world conversational lessons.

2. Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of data:

• Account data — your name, email address, and profile picture provided when you sign in with your identity provider.
• Onboarding preferences — your selected learning region (North / South Vietnamese), gender preference, and support language.
• Usage data — lesson progress, quiz and speaking attempt scores, and session activity logs used to personalise and improve your learning experience.
• Payment data — subscription status and billing events processed by our payment providers. We do not store raw card details; all payment processing is handled by our payment providers.
• Audio recordings — short voice clips you choose to record during pronunciation exercises. These are sent to our pronunciation evaluation service for real-time assessment and are not retained after scoring.
• Technical data — IP address, browser type, and error logs collected automatically for security and debugging purposes.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To authenticate you and manage your account.
• To deliver, personalise, and improve the learning experience.
• To track your lesson progress and display it back to you.
• To process subscription payments and manage entitlements.
• To evaluate pronunciation accuracy in real time.
• To detect abuse, enforce our Terms of Service, and maintain platform security.
• To send transactional emails (e.g. account notifications) — we do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.

4. Cookies & Local Storage

We use a session cookie to keep you authenticated. We also uselocalStorageto remember your display theme preference (light / dark). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and progress data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g. financial transaction records, which we retain for 5 years per Vietnamese accounting law).

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate data.
• Delete your account and associated data.
• Export your progress data in a portable format.
• Withdraw consent for optional data processing at any time.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including TLS encryption in transit, server-side authentication checks on every protected route, rate limiting on all APIs, and strict admin access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security but we take every reasonable precaution.

8. Children's Privacy

SpeakVietnam is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting a notice on the site or sending an email to your registered address. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
